Prototype with synthetic data. Demo City Volunteer Services is a fictional demo organization. No real volunteer records; messages go to an on-screen outbox and are never sent.

Accessibility statement

VolunteerHub is designed to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA across public pages, the volunteer portal, staff administration, the kiosk, forms and generated documents, to support the client organization's obligations under ADA Title II and Section 508.

How it is built

  • Semantic HTML landmarks, a skip link, one H1 per page and unique page titles.
  • Every form control has a visible label; hints and errors are linked with aria-describedby, and errors are described in text.
  • All functions work with a keyboard, with a high-visibility focus outline.
  • Text and interface colors meet 4.5:1 (text) and 3:1 (UI) contrast; status is always shown in words, not color alone.
  • Results of actions are announced to screen readers through a live region.
  • Layouts reflow to 320 CSS pixels and support 200% zoom; motion is reduced when the user asks.
  • Data tables have captions and column headers. QR codes have text alternatives, and every QR function can also be done by name, ID or phone.
  • Exports (CSV and JSON) are machine-readable; calendar files follow RFC 5545.

Testing

Automated axe-core 4.13.0 checks (WCAG 2.0/2.1 A and AA rules) ran against 85 pages and states of a production build on 2026-09-30: 0 violations. Automated tools find only part of WCAG issues, so the prototype was also reviewed manually for keyboard operation, focus order, labels, reflow and contrast, as documented in the vendor self-assessment VPAT. Screen-reader testing with NVDA, JAWS and VoiceOver is scheduled during implementation. An independent third-party audit is planned before launch.

Known limitations

  • The training video in this prototype is a placeholder; production videos will have captions, audio description where needed, and transcripts.
  • Camera QR scanning depends on the device; name, ID and phone check-in are always available as equivalents.
  • Uploaded volunteer documents (for example scanned certificates) are stored as provided and may not be accessible.
